One of my all time favorites has come to the Fulton Theatre for the holiday season, and it is fabulous. I had the privilege of going for the opening night performance. First, if you’ve never been to the Fulton, let me tell you about this grand old theatre. It is a National Historic Landmark – for over 150 years, audiences have been entertained, educated and inspired at one of America’s most historic theatres. Many of the “greats” of the stage have performed on this theatre’s stage, including the Barrymore family, Sarah Bernhardt, W. C. Fields, Mark Twain, and hundreds more.
On to the show. The Sound of Music is the perfect family holiday musical. It’s beautifully done at the Fulton, I overheard someone saying that they had previously seen it on Broadway, and that the Fulton did it better (something that I’ve heard about MANY of their shows)!
Even after seeing the movie a thousand times, the cast of the Fulton made it a delight, and the orchestra sounds so full. The sets have captured the grandeur of the von Trapp family mansion beautifully, and little Gretl von Trapp is just adorable. Catherine Walker as Maria, has so much energy and puts a smile on your face as you watch her sing, and along with Michael Sharon as Captain Georg von Trapp captures the romantic appeal that Rodgers and Hammerstein wanted, and he brought tears to my eyes singing “Edelweiss.”
This is a fantastic production, and appeals to all ages, so you definitely don’t want to miss out on this show! Order your tickets now, as the show is selling out quickly!
