I’ve had my share of PA Dutch style food while living in Lancaster County. I moved here from Philly, so there were some odd things that I had to learn what they were, like chow chow, pepper cabbage, and some other PA Dutch staples. I went to Stoltzfus Farm Restaurant for the first time a few weeks ago, and was very pleased. The service is excellent, the waitress that we had was one of the Stoltzfus girls, she was so sweet. Unlike some of the other restaurants in Lancaster, you get a private table, which is nice if you want to get together with friends or family and be able to focus on them, instead of being seated with other guests of the restaurant.
When you go, you get bottomless dishes, so that when you finish something, you get more – we started out with some chow chow, pepper cabbage, apple butter and bread. Their pepper cabbage is probably the best I’ve ever tasted, and I actually liked the chow chow – I’ve never had any before, so that was a treat. Next we had our main course of sausage, ham loaf, fresh corn, green beans, fried chicken, buttered noodles, and some delicious stuffing. I know. You’re probably thinking that I gained about 10 pounds – I probably did, everything was so good! Their fried chicken was so moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. I would definitely recommend Stoltzfus Farm Restaurant to anyone. It’s definitely a hidden gem of Lancaster County – it may not have the flashiest sign or be right on the main road, but it’s authentic Amish style cuisine served in a farm house – and it is delicious! Oh my word, and don’t forget to save room for dessert – I could barely finish my carrot cake, but I just had to try it, and it was SO good!
